• What are AIB Online Courses?

  (PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE THESE INSTRUCTIONS WITH E LEARNING COURSE INSTRUCTIONS)

  AIB Online Courses are instructor-led classes that are delivered over the Internet. In many respects, they are very similar to classroom-delivered AIB courses. Each course has a start and an end date and applicants are required to complete one or more lessons each week. You have to return your homework in at least every nine days. 

  Each lesson typically consists of reading a chapter in the textbook or online, completing a self-check quiz online and completing an assignment that is submitted electronically to the instructor. Most of the courses have a midterm and final exam. 

  As a registrant you will need to be able to log on the first day of class and thereafter you do not need to login at a specific time or date, but must make sure to read the assignments and post homework within the deadline given. Typically, registrants should be logging in at least twice a week. 

  Most of the sixteen-week courses (except for the certificate courses) include a textbook. The books are mailed before the class starts and are included in the registration fee. Each class is limited to between 20 to 30 applicants. (There are a few classes that use the same book, so please make sure to note on your registration form if you do not need a book.) During the course applicants will be communicating with other registrants in the class as well as the instructor using both e-mail and an online discussion board. 

  Instructors are available to answer questions from the applicants and to provide feedback on the work that is submitted. 

  There are currently more than 30 individual AIB Online Courses available. Most follow the traditional 5 to 16 week format and have designated start and end dates. 

• Registration and Billing

  HOW DO I REGISTER? 
  1. All registrations must be received at KBA office at least by the Wednesday prior to the class starting on the following Monday. If possible, we ask you to register at least 2 weeks out, so you are able to enroll into the class and receive a textbook by mail in due time. 
  
  2. We do understand there will late registrations and we will try to accommodate these bankers. If a banker is registering late, please call the KBA Office at 800-392-4045 to confirm we have space in the course. We will capture any late registrations and add them to the class if possible. 
  
  3. Fax your registration to 1-502-584-6390 or register online at the KBA websitewww.kybanks.com – education section, then AIB. Please make sure the registration is legible. We receive many faxed registrations that are difficult to read. It is very important that the applicant’s email address is clear and legible as email is the primary method of communication between the bankers, instructors and our staff. 
  
  4. Your registration should clearly show who the “bill to” person is and please let us know if their address is different than yours. 
  
  5. KBA will not send you a confirmation, when a registration is faxed in. No matter how you register for an online class the banker will receive an email confirming the class registration and log on information within 24-48 hours of the start date of the class. We will only call you at the time of registration if you are unable to get into the class.

  NOTE: You will receive emails or books from the American Bankers Association (ABA) however ALWAYS RETURN TO WWW.KYBANKS.COM TO REGISTER FOR ANY EDUCATION PROGRAMS, INCLUDING AIB ONLINE CLASSES. 
  
  You can also call the KBA office for any questions you may have. Please DO NOT register for AIB courses directly with the ABA because the KBA will not have your records or be able to service your business. You may also be charged a non-member fee if you register through the ABA.

• Textbook

  If you register in time and for some reason you do not receive your textbook, about a week before the class begins, please let the KBA know. 

  Don’t panic if you haven’t received your book. Most of the online courses, that have a textbook, do not have required textbook readings the first week of the course. The first week is spent getting familiar with the course platform. The first two chapters of the textbook to all courses will be online. This will ease any pressure on late enrollments and reduce rush shipping charges. 

  The only courses that need a textbook the first week are: 

  • Analyzing Bank Performance 
  • Managing Interest Rate Risk 
  • ABA Online Review Course for the CRCM Examination 

  Effective April 17, 2006 AIB Courses that have a textbook associated with them will be charged a $7.50 shipping & handling fee.

• What if a Class is Full?

  If a class becomes full there are two things that we may do: 

  Usually we start another session of the class starting on the same date or; if this is not possible, we will notify you and the applicant that the class is full and see if you would like to move into the next available date.

  
  

• What if the Class Does Not Have Enough Applicants?

  We generally do not run classes with fewer than 10 registrations. If we cancel a class, we will notify the banker and you and see if you would like to be moved to the next available class. An option of a refund is available if this does not work.

• What if We Have Questions Regarding Our invoice?

  If you have questions regarding individual orders, confirmations, or the class contact the KBA office at 800-392-4045.

• What are the Cancellation/Transfer Policy/Drop Procedures?

  When drop procedures are not followed properly for any course, your bank will be billed full tuition and may contact you for reimbursement. Your bank may also request your reimbursement of any drop fee. 

  AIB Online Instructor-led Courses (in conjunction with American Bankers Association) 

  To drop an Online Instructor-led Course you must notify the KBA office. Notification to our office can be made by calling (502) 582-2453, sending a fax to (502) 584-6390 or emailing education@kybanks.com. There will be a $100 drop fee* for cancellations received within 10 business days after the start of the course. NO REFUNDS will be made for cancellations received after 10 business days. Students may transfer to a later course (only once in each course) by paying a $100 transfer fee. Course student is traferring to must be within 2 months of transfer date. Transfer fee for all courses is $100.

  If an employee leaves the bank after registering for an AIB online course, a refund can only be made before the course begins or within 10 business days of the course start date (minus $100 drop fee). ABA will not make exceptions to the above drop procedures. We suggest asking employees about AIB classes they are currently enrolled in during the exit interview OR you may call our office and we can tell you if an employee is currently registered in an AIB course.

  *NOTE: To receive a refund on a textbook it MUST be returned unopened or in NEW condition within 30 days. When textbooks are NOT returned, or are NOT in NEW condition the cost of the book will be ADDED to the $100 drop fee. To expedite your textbook refund please include the original packing slip when returning. 

  *NOTE: This applies to ALL AIB Courses. 

  *Textbook Refunds

  This applies to ALL AIB courses. To receive credit for KBA textbooks, when you drop a course, they must be returned (shipped or mailed prepaid) to the KBA office in NEW condition (any textbooks with writing or highlighting in them will not be accepted for refund). Refund will not be issued until the book is received.

• How Do We Receive Grades?

  The applicant receives a letter of completion a few weeks after the course has ended. 

  You can also email the KBA office; we receive online grades every quarter and will post them to your transcript.

• ABA Communication to and With Applicants

  WHAT DOES THE APPLICANT RECEIVE FROM ABA AFTER REGISTRATION? 

  Due to the increasing volume of spam being sent and banks' tightening of their firewalls and security filters, the mail server at your location may not allow communication from our mail server. In order to ensure you receive confirmation of your course registration and communications from your instructor during your course, let your MIS/IT department know you will be taking an online course from the American Bankers Association.

  The spam filter on your network needs to be modified to allow for messages to come in from our application. These e-mails will come from a variety of addresses but will be routed through aba6.blackboard.com at IP address 216.200.108.85 or from xyzstaffperson@aba.com. 

  1. If a textbook is required for the course, it will be shipped from the ABA warehouse. Materials are sent UPS ground delivery and take from five to ten business days to arrive at the banker’s address. 

  2. Before the start of the class, applicants receive an email fromonline@aba.com reminding them the class is starting and how to access the course with their password. 

  3. If this email is returned as undeliverable, ABA will contact the applicant, correcting the email address and resend their logon email.

• Applicant User ID and Password

  An assigned username and password is how applicants gain access to their courses on the Blackboard platform and is included in the welcome email sent before the start of the course. 
  
  Assigning user names/passwords creates a unique username/password for applicants. This is a combination of their first initial of their first name, last name, and last three digits of their person id from CGI (for example jsmith123). 
  
  The BlackBoard log-on page also has a "Forgot my Password" feature which can assist bankers if they forgot username and/or password.

• Encouraging Applicants to Complete the Course

  One business day before the start date of a course, you will receive an email welcoming you to the course and providing log on instructions. If the email is returned as undeliverable, ABA will call you to get a correction to the email address and resends the email. 

  Two days after the first assignment is due, participation is checked and an email is sent to anyone who has not logged onto the site. The local training provider and the instructor are copied on the email. In our continuing efforts to encourage applicant participation, a reminder email will be sent to registrants that fall behind in their work by two lessons anywhere in the course. After missing one lesson, the instructor will send an email to you. After missing two lessons, the instructor will inform ABA, and online@aba.com will send an email to you. 

   The KBA is copied on the email that ABA sends and the KBA will follow up with the banker or their manager.

• AIB Diplomas and Certificates

  AIB Diplomas Set

  With AIB Online Courses and ABA eLearning, applicants can complete one or all of the required and elective courses needed to qualify for AIB Diplomas and Certificates over the Internet. *Please notify the KBA Education Department when you feel you have completed the last class required to obtain your diploma. 

  DIPLOMAS 

  AIB Financial Management Diploma

  This certificate program is designed for individuals who are involved in the financial management of their bank, including junior officers up through CEOs, CFOs and other senior officers making key decisions that affect bank profitability. 

  AIB Bank Marketing Diploma 
  This diploma program provides the tools necessary to prepare today's bank marketers. Courses are developed for professionals with marketing experience, or banking experience, demonstrating how to combine their abilities for successful bank marketing programs. 

  AIB Bank Operations Diploma 

  This diploma program is a general overview of banking for personnel new to the field and for mid-level professionals, supervisors and clerks to become supervisors or managers in bank operations. 
  
  AIB Banking and Finance Diploma 

  This collaborative diploma program is sponsored by the American Bankers Association, Local ABA Training Providers and accredited institutions of higher education. It is designed to provide knowledge of the banking industry in its entirety. 

  AIB Commercial Lending Diploma 

  This diploma program sharpens the lending knowledge and skill of management trainees, experienced commercial lenders and loan officers. 

  AIB Consumer Lending Diploma

  This diploma program sharpens the lending knowledge and skill of management trainees, experienced consumer lenders and loan officers. 

  AIB General Banking 

  This diploma program introduces entry-level bank personnel to the role of banking in the U.S. economy and to specific banking functions. 

  AIB Mortgage Lending Diploma 

  This diploma program sharpens the lending knowledge and skills of management trainees, experienced mortgage lenders and loan officers. 

  AIB Personal Banking Diploma 

  This diploma program addresses the appropriate mix of banking knowledge and skills leading to a successful Personal Banker/Financial Services Representative. 

  AIB Personal Trust Diploma 

  This diploma program was developed to prepare individuals for the professional certification as Certified Trust and Financial Advisors (CTFA) designation through ABA's Institute of Certified Bankers. 

  AIB Retail Branch Management Diploma 

  This diploma program prepares individuals to manage a banking office by covering banking essentials, sales management, people management and business management skills. 

  CERTIFICATES 

  AIB Bank Service Provider Certificate

  This certificate is designed for individuals employed by companies that provide products and services to the banking industry. Bank service providers need a broad understanding of the banking business and benefit from the same content used by the institutions they will be selling to and servicing.

  AIB Bank Teller Certificate 

  This certificate is centered on AIB Today's Teller, which addresses the critical technical skills of the position. The remaining courses address practical knowledge and applied skills in banking, regulatory compliance for tellers, and customer service and sales. 

  AIB Call Center Representative Certificate 

  This certificate addresses the knowledge and skills necessary to become a superior Call Center Representative. In addition to fundamental understanding of banking and banking regulations affecting the position, the required courses emphasize telephone skills, product knowledge, sales and customer service. 

  AIB Customer Service Rep Certificate 

  This certificate program builds skills used by frontline banking personnel (tellers, customer service and safe deposit clerks) who are primarily responsible for handling routine banking transactions.

  AIB Small Business Banking Certificate 

  This certificate is primarily for relationship managers who need the skills to build a relationship-centric sales approach, engage customers to better understand their needs and appropriate solutions, handle objections, plan and execute the perfect sales call, and manage relationships post-sale.

  AIB Supervisor Certificate 

  This certificate program prepares new and potential first-level supervisors to handle people management duties, by building the skills and practical knowledge needed for success. 

  AIB Team Leader Certificate 

  This certificate program is designed to develop the skills needed to lead a team to accomplishing its goal. It is designed for bank personnel who direct the daily work of others, whether or not they have direct supervisory responsibility for those people.

• How Do the Certificate Courses Work?

  Applicants can earn select AIB Certificates by taking one of the following certificate courses and Banking Today. The certificate courses include all of the required courses included in each certificate. The online format does not allow bankers to select their own electives, so we have noted the prerequisites and the elective courses. 
  
  • Team Leader Certificate (no prerequisites or electives required) 
  • Sales Manager Certificate (Introduction to Relationship Selling) 
  • Supervisor Certificate (Managing Change) 
  
  Each certificate course lasts 16 weeks. Once the applicant has completed the certificate class as well as either Banking Today, please send the request to the KBA office for the certificate. We will verify you have completed the required courses and your certificate will be mailed out. 
  
  AIB Certificate Courses (AIB Short Courses Embedded with an AIB Online Course) 
  ABA offers a few “AIB Certificate Courses” that are AIB Online Courses embedded with a number of AIB short courses that, as stand-alone courses, are applicable to many AIB diplomas and certificates. Currently, these Certificate Courses are available as the major component of the following certificates: AIB Sales Manager Certificate, AIB Supervisor Certificate, and AIB Team Leader Certificate. (In addition to successfully completing a Certificate Course, applicants is required to pass AIB Banking Today to earn a certificate.) 
  
  In each AIB Certificate Course, ABA administers a final examination, and also issues letter grades. Applicants who earn a “C” grade or higher in one of the AIB Certificate Courses may apply any of the embedded AIB short courses toward applicable AIB diplomas or certificates. Each short course within the Certificate Course will be considered to have a “Pass” grade when the short course is applied to another AIB diploma or certificate program

• Credit Recommendations

  AIB Courses Receive ACE College Credit Recommendations
  12 Online Courses Meet Requirements

  The American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended college credit for 12 AIB Online Courses. The American Council on Education, the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and to influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives. 

  ACE CREDIT connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit at colleges and universities for formal courses and examinations taken in the workplace or other settings outside traditional higher education.

  These recommendations apply to current sessions of these courses and are retroactive to the fall of 1999. These recommendations do not guarantee you college credit. The final decision is up to each college or University. The ACE website lists the Colleges and Universities that have agreed to accept the credit recommendations when appropriate. 

  You need to check directly with the College or University where you want to enroll to obtain information about their current policy.

• What is the Process for Transferring Classes?

  If you want to transfer your courses to or from the KBA or a college or university, please do the following: 
  
  To transfer classes to the KBA contact the KBA and let them know you will be sending a transcript from your college/university, especially if the last name will be different on the transcript. Once your transcript is received it will be reviewed to see if any of your classes can be applied towards an AIB diploma. Most classes that transfer are business related classes such as accounting or economics. 

  To transfer your classes to a college/university talk to that college/university first to see if there policy will allow transferred classes from AIB. This is up to that particular institution and it is their final decision. If you need an official transcript sent to that particular college/university - go to our website  www.kybanks.com and you can fill out the form for an official transcript to be mailed to them. It is $5 per transcript and please make sure to indicate a contact name at the university that the transcript is being mailed to. You can complete the request online or mail it in with your $5 check or money order, and your transcript will be sent out. If anyone there has any questions, the KBA will be happy to speak to that college/university contact. 

  If you would like to know what classes you have taken in the past and want a transcript for yourself or a contact at the bank you work at, please fill out the form for transcript and check unofficial. This does not cost anything and we can fax or mail it to you.
