Wellness Program
To impact the cause of illnesses the KBA Participating Employee Committee (PEC) voted to offer a Wellness Program, at no cost to the banks. All banks with health insurance in the Kentucky Bankers Association Trust are eligible for the program.
Highlights
- All employees who are eligible for health benefits can participate in the Wellness Program.
- A bank must have a minimum of 50% of the eligible employees commit to participation.
- Participation = completion of a Health Risk Assessment (questionnaire), fitness assessment, and blood profile.
- All information is held in strictest confidence.
- Employees with a significant health risk will be contacted by the health care coach periodically to gauge progress.
- Employees will be asked for permission to share the results with their doctor.
- Aggregate reports are discussed with the employer so they may create participation incentives and gauge progress.
- A bank can mandate that employees participate in order to be eligible for the health plan.
- We recommend that the bank create incentives to encourage employees to participate in the program.
- Incentives are allowed as long as they are only based on participation - NOT based on results.
- Incentives can be in the form of small gifts (i.e., Gift cards, t-shirts, tote bags, etc.), cash bonuses, or reduction in payroll deduction for premium.
- If you currently pay 100% of the single premium, you can change your contribution level to 90% for those who choose not to participate in the wellness program.
- Cash incentives of $20 to $30 per month will change employee behavior.
Return on Investment
- Reduced absenteeism
- Reduced presenteeism
- Reduced disability
- Reduced health care expenses
- Lower worker’s compensation costs
- Increased productivity = Improved bottom line
- Studies show that there is a $3 to $5 return on every $1 invested in wellness!
Feedback and Success Stories
- “We had a Biggest Loser contest that was very successful. In total 17 people lost 234 pounds or 5.1% of combined body weight. We also had 1 person identified as a Type 1 diabetic as a result of the screening.”
- “I’ve have received many positive responses. Everyone wants to do it again next year! I thought this was a good thing and it makes me more aware of what needs improvement in my life. That was much more beneficial than just going to the doctor. I hope that we can make this an annual event for all employees.”
- “Providing all of us with Personal Wellness Profile shows a level of concern for employee welfare. With this year as a benchmark we can work on areas where we need improvement and than get a report on how successful we were.”
- “Many are more aware of their diet and helping each other to drink more water, etc.”
- “First I would like to say “Thank You” for the team of ladies you sent to our bank. They did a great job of making everyone feel comfortable during the fitness assessments and blood profiles. Our employees have received their results and several are following up w/ their family doctors. We had one employee who shared that he had a triglyceride number of 1100!! He went to the doctor the very next day.”
- “We think this is an excellent program! We hope KBA continues next year.”
- “The Health assessments went great Laura and Lori and all of the others did a great job – everyone moved through very quickly. Laura was certainly a hit with her painless blood draws. I know that our participants received a lot of good information and we are doing several things to keep their focus on wellness."
- "Occupational Health Solutions did a great job with the initial health screenings and they were wonderful to work with. We definitely believe that our "Wellness Program" has been successful and we are anxious to do the screenings next year and see our improved numbers."
