Bond University

Seminar 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. local time. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast.

After a decade of historically low rates, the bond market is finally offering attractive yield and revenue opportunities. With over 20% of Kentucky bank assets allocated to the bond portfolio, there is an incredible opportunity to improve net interest margin, ROA, ROE and efficiency ratios.

There are three primary objectives to the KBA Bond University: 1) How to assess the environment and determine current opportunities; 2) Develop a deep grasp of each bond sector; 3) Learn how to purchase bonds with a goal of building a high performing portfolio within the context of your bank's interest rate risk, liquidity and funding parameters.

One of the unique components of this session is that each bank is provided with a portfolio analysis, balance sheet review (liability sensitivity study) and bank peer (vs. Kentucky) analysis. This provides a rare opportunity for each attendee to assess their institutions bond and A/L position.

AGENDA

Market Overview
- this will cover the current economy (Kentucky and National), interest rate projections and what impact this might have on banks in Kentucky.

Building a High Performing Portfolio - We will cover the requirements needed to build and monitor a high-performing portfolio.

Mortgage Market - More than 40% of bank portfolios are made up of mortgage-related bonds. The sector is a key component to managing interest rate risk and liquidity. We will provide a deep understanding of each sector (SBA, CMBS, ARM, MBS, CMO). We will show how each sector is used to manage interest rate risk, liquidity and improve portfolio performance.

Corporate Market - Corporate bonds have taken on a bigger role in Kentucky bank portfolios due to their higher returns and as an offset to low loan growth. This session will educate about how to analyze the sector and determine if there are opportunities for your bank.

Agency Bond Market - Agency bonds have long been used as a pledging asset in Kentucky. With rates on the rise and with volatility increasing many banks are purchasing step-up and callable structures for the defense and return components. We will highlight the current opportunities in this market.

Brokered Certificates of Deposit - Brokered CDs have been one of the fastest growing sectors for banks across the country. They are zero percent risk-weighted and provide yields that many times approach corporate bond yields. This session will educate about the market and also show some unique opportunities that are available in this sector.

Municipal Bond Market - More than 30% of Kentucky bank portfolios are allocated to municipal bonds. Municipal bonds have the highest correlation to high portfolio performance. This session will cover the national and Kentucky bank municipal bond markets. We will highlight what impact tax changes have had on the sector and current opportunities in municipal bonds.

Strategy Session - This interactive section of the day will pull everything together and teach the attendees how to create real portfolio performance. We will do this with live strategies that are geared towards creating high return to risk. We will cover swap strategies, loan funding strategies, interest rate risk mitigation and earnings strategies.
