  • Use of peer-to-peer (“P2P”) applications - and the risks they bring - continues to grow. In this session, we will look at the various concerns that P2P payments pose to banks and bank customers. We’ll then turn to recent developments in this area, reviewing both guidance and enforcement actions for suggestions on how banks can get ahead of the changes. Join us for a thorough discussion of how a robust BSA/AML program can approach P2P payments and their related risks.

    Customer Due Diligence is a cornerstone of a strong, successful AML program. In this session, we will discuss the new 2025 CIP exemption and review Customer and Enhanced Due Diligence pitfalls and best practices, as well as AML program considerations, policy statements, example account opening questionnaires, high-risk banking concerns, and more.
  • Understanding FinCEN's 2026 Priorities and Section 2313a Enforcement
    This presentation explores the evolving regulatory landscape shaped by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as it enters 2026. It highlights FinCEN's strategic priorities- including AMLICFT modernization, beneficial ownership transparency, and real estate reporting- and examines the groundbreaking enforcement actions under Section 2313a of the FEND Off Fentanyl Act. Attendees will gain insights into how FinCEN is leveraging new authorities to combat illicit opioid trafficking, including direct orders against foreign financial institutions. The session includes real-world case studies, compliance implications, and practical guidance for financial institutions to adapt their risk management and operational frameworks in response to these developments.

Cannon Armstrong
Office of Medical Cannabis

Cannon Armstrong currently serves as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis, a position he assumed on June 1st, 2025, following an appointment by Governor Beshear. In this role, he oversees the implementation and administration of the state's medical cannabis program under KRS 218B, guiding efforts to ensure safe, equitable, and regulated access for Kentuckians with serious medical conditions. Prior to this current appointment, Armstrong accumulated over 13 years of public service experience across multiple state and local government roles. His career includes service as an Assistant Fayette County Attorney, Staff Attorney for the Public Protection Cabinet, Commissioner of Charitable Gaming, and Executive Director at the Tourism Arts and Heritage Cabinet. Beyond public service, he also brings private-sector experience as co-owner and manager of several small businesses. As Executive Director, Armstrong has played a central role in advancing key milestones for the Governor's medical cannabis program. Under his leadership, the Office has overseen the licensing of cultivators , the commencement of cultivation activities in the state, the movement of dispensary approvals, and efforts to accelerate patient access while balancing regulatory oversight and transparency. His work emphasizes coordination with health, agriculture, and law enforcement stakeholders to meet program goals.




Ms. Julianna Casey
Cherry Bekaert

A Senior Associate on Cherry Bekaert's Risk Advisory Group, Julianna provides services and expertise to clients in various areas of regulatory compliance and internal audit. Prior to joining Cherry Bekaert, Julianna was a Senior Associate at a large regional accounting firm, specializing in internal audit and regulatory compliance. Additionally, she interned at a community bank in their internal audit and compliance department. Her areas of focus include BSA/AML, lending and deposit compliance, operational internal audit, loan review and data analytics.




Brett Goodnack

Brett Goodnack, JD, CAMS, is Associate General Counsel for Compliance Hub. Brett brings 10+ years of experience in due diligence and risk mitigation, including roles in trust administration and governance consulting. He previously served as Associate Director for a global investment bank in AML and KYC. Brett is also a featured author for Compliance Alliance.




Kevin Gulledge
Abrigo

Kevin Gulledge is a Senior Risk Management Consultant with over eighteen years’ experience in the retail banking industry. He worked with mid-sized and large international institutions in a variety of roles, including retail, operations, compliance, and BSA/AML. He has been in his current role with Abrigo as consultant and educator since 2014, where he has worked with domestic and international institutions on internal and external projects, including optimizations of automated transaction monitoring programs, regulatory finding remediation, staffing assessments, data validation reviews, policy and procedure drafting, staff augmentation, risk assessments and more. Kevin is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a member of the national and local chapters of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).




Mr. Jeremy Lankster

Jeremy has more than two decades of risk management experience. He has worked with national and regional accounting firms as well as large and small financial institutions. He has experience with banks primarily regulated by OCC, FDIC, and Federal Reserve and state authorities. He has served as a Risk Manager, Director of Internal Audit, Compliance Officer, and Bank Secrecy Act Officer. Jeremy has been a frequent presenter at the Kentucky Banker’s Association Internal Audit Seminar. Jeremy is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist who has performed consulting and internal audit work for multiple institutions encompassing the following areas: trust, operational, financial, regulatory compliance, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).




Carrie Luman
Clark Schaefer Hackett

As Manager in the Risk Management Services Group, Carrie provides various professional services to financial institutions. Core services include loan reviews, internal audits, and regulatory compliance audits. She provides valued feedback to our clients about operational efficiency and effectiveness, best practices, adherence to policies and procedures, and compliance with laws and regulations. Carrie has over 20 years of experience in financial services with senior leadership roles in deposit and loan operations, compliance, audit, risk management, and significant BSAI AML and OFAC compliance expertise. She has significant experience mitigating risks in banking in high-risk industries, such as cannabis and digital payment systems.




Mrs. Jessie Southworth
Kentucky Bankers Association

Jessie serves as the Director of Education with the Kentucky Bankers Association. She has an extensive background in bank regulation and spent over 10 years with the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions where she served as a field examiner, case manager, training coordinator and acting bank branch manager. In that position she examined bank and credit unions BSA programs, and reviewed examination findings. She spent five years as an instructor with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors conducting BSA/AML trainings training financial institution examiners from across the country.




Andrea Williams
Eastern District of Kentucky

Tentative: Andrea Mattingly Williams is an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Kentucky who prosecutes financial crimes. Andrea is the SAR Attorney within the office and runs a SAR Task Force. Andrea has been with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for five years, and before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Andrea was a Fayette Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for fifteen years.




Mr. Drew Young
Elliott Davis, LLC

As the BSA and regulatory compliance practice leader, Drew works exclusively with financial institutions to provide regulatory compliance services, including risk-based regulatory compliance review, Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering review, model validation services, fair lending analysis, consultation, audit and training. He has over fifteen years of experience and has worked with institutions across the United States ranging in asset size from $40 million to over $60 billion. He also has extensive experience providing regulatory compliance and BSA/AML training via speaking engagements with the Virginia Association of Community Banks, Tennessee Bankers Association, Community Bankers Association of Georgia, North Carolina Bankers Association, Kentucky Bankers Association, and the Association of Credit Union Audit and Risk Professionals (ACUARP).


Education Alliance Cancellation Policy
Substitutions are always welcome and encouraged. All cancellations and substitutions request must be submitted in writing prior to the event.

KBA Seminar Registrations can cancel 30 days prior to the event date and receive a full refund. Cancellations received between 29 days and 10 days prior to the event will be charged a $50 processing fee. There will be no refund for cancellations received less than 10 days prior to the event.

KBA Schools Applicants can withdraw from a KBA School 10 days prior to the 1st day of the school for a refund minus a $150 cancellation fee. There is no refund if an applicant withdraws after the deadline or if applicant fails to attend the school, with the exception of extenuating circumstances. Due to commitments and expenses we cannot reverse, such as: handouts, food, beverages, room rentals, speaker fees, etc.; even extenuating circumstances will require partial refunds because of these expenses.
