The 15 Worst Security Mistakes

There are hundreds of ways to make critical security mistakes within a financial institution—and there’s little time to deal with the aftermath created by those mistakes. This session identifies the 15 worst security mistakes that consultants find financial institutions making and how to correct them. The mistakes and remedies presented are drawn from Thompson Consulting Group’s extensive experience consulting and training financial institutions across the country.

Cash Recyclers, Pod Banking & ITMs

Banking as we’ve known it is rapidly changing. Apps, pod banking, cash recyclers, interactive teller machines, and other new technologies are affecting how we do business and offering new challenges to security. This fast-moving presentation embraces these new changes by explaining how we can implement them to make them valuable and profitable to the financial institution, while maintaining effective security protocols. This presentation isn't based upon theory. It's a real-life, real-time program relating to issues that may contribute to an institution's losses.

Internal Fraud: The Warning Signs

This program has it all. Breakout sessions, open discussion, thought provoking details and a deep dive into a high-profile investigative situation. What steps need to be taken? What is important? Learn how to take control of the situation, gather the important evidence, ask the right questions, and properly document your actions.

Robbery Awareness: Back Office Responsibilities

The person most likely to stumble upon a robbery in progress will be a back office staff member. This program is designed specifically for back office personnel who have little interest in teller training for a robbery situation. Attendees will learn situations to avoid, how to handle a robbery they accidentally observe, and gain new understanding on how to view the physical surroundings they work in daily.

DAY TWO

15 Errors to Avoid When Conducting Internal Investigation

Internal fraud can cost financial institutions unrecoverable money and time. When the embezzler hasn’t been identified, emotions run high! Investigations launched in panic with the wrong leaders may cause unexpected complications. This eye-opening presentation will explain what not to do. Staff who have not been trained on internal embezzlement may cause flawed investigations, harassment charges, and unsolved losses. This program will explain 15 errors that can result in a failed investigation. Awareness of these pitfalls will enable your institution to establish an action plan that will protect you when the unthinkable happens.

Conducting a Physical Security Review and Risk Assessment

This information packed program will provide you with a recipe on how to conduct your annual security review. No longer can you just use a checklist to determine if your financial institution is safe. We will instruct you on how to think like a criminal to protect your assets, information, and people. Today, the criminal world attacks your institution via computer, customers, and social engineering ploys. Your annual review should find or correct problems with physical security, robbery procedures, and staff training.

Interviewing and Confessions

This session will examine the traits and process of conducting an effective and positive interview. The goal in conducting a successful interview is the ability to determine the truthfulness of a subject. The art and science of interviewing techniques are an extremely valuable tool in conducting an investigation. The goal in performing a positive interview is to support and ultimately gain a confession from the party responsible for the incident.

This session will discuss and explore the use in observing the Body Languages and responses from a subject to gage the truthfulness or deception in their responses.

Board Reporting: The Security Perspective

Regulations specify that the Security Officer must report to the board annually and that the implementation, administration, and effectiveness of the security program be addressed. What exactly the Security Officer should report to the board is not clearly identified in the regulations. This interactive session will review best practices relating to training, inspections, and foreseeable events that should be reported to your board.
